Project Horizon was a £300m phased 72,000 sq m data centre development for an international financial organisation. Khalid was tasked to design the long-span steel roof structure and using innovative design techniques, managed to achieve a considerable saving in material weight compared to the design at concept stage.

This project was a £80m 19-storey development providing 1000 rooms of student accommodation, three storeys of higher education facilities and two basement levels housing a swimming pool, plant and other back of house areas. This development consisted several challenges ranging from a 15 storey RC frame supported off a steel transfer deck, radial plan profile of building posing setting out challenges and protected viewing planes resulting in a sloping steel roof structure. Khalid successfully collaborated with the architect to realise their aspirations and assisted the contractor to help deliver the construction of the complex structure on time and programme.

Major £60m extension and refurbishment project in Canary Wharf providing an extra 24,000 sq ft of new office space. Khalid has been involved from the onset and has successfully delivered the works on site. He assisted both the client and architect during the initial stages to help advise on the maximum storey extensions than could be permitted using clever analytical techniques whilst minimising impact on the incumbent tenant which was a key constraint. He also assisted the contractor to develop a complex jacking proposal to facilitate the extensions and helped devise novel methods to enhance the structural frame to resist the additional loads.

Following the ongoing success on 25 Cabot Square, the client appointed the same team within Ramboll to work on a new £30m student housing development in Milan designed to accommodate 600 student residences over 21,500 sq m. Khalid successfully demonstrated his abilities to understand the key constraints whilst working on an international project and he successfully delivered the concept design working alongside UK and Milan-based design teams.

Khalid was responsible for managing a large multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians in delivering the design of this challenging and complex development in London offering 175,000 sq ft office space. The £120m development was located above two underground rail tunnels. Working closely with the client, design team and external stakeholders, the design was completed and the complex substructure and superstructure have been constructed successfully.
